Progress Made in Extradition Agreement Between Indonesia and Singapore

Singapore, VIVA – President Prabowo Subianto stated that there has been progress in Indonesia’s extradition cooperation with Singapore. This was conveyed during his working visit to Singapore on Monday (June 16).

The president also personally witnessed the signing of the extradition treaty along with 18 other cooperation agreements.

These agreements were signed following the Leaders’ Retreat meeting held at Parliament House, Singapore.

In the field of politics and security, both nations reaffirmed their commitment to fully implement the defense cooperation agreement and to accelerate the finalization of technical details for military training zones.

In addition, progress was made on the extradition treaty mechanism, including the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Attorney Generals of both countries.

“In the field of politics and security, we reaffirmed our commitment to fully implement the defense cooperation agreement and to finalize all technical details for military training areas. I hope this can move forward quickly. We also made progress on the extradition treaty mechanism,” head of state remarked.

Meanwhile, Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas welcomed the Singaporean government’s commitment regarding the extradition/mutual legal assistance (MLA) agreement between the two nations.

He viewed the commitment as a positive step in mutually beneficial diplomatic relations, particularly in upholding the rule of law.

“One of the key points brought up in the meeting between the Prime Minister of Singapore and the President was the extradition agreement between Indonesia and Singapore. The Singaporean government has committed to implementing the agreement that was signed,” he stated.

Minister Atgas is optimistic that Singapore’s commitment to the extradition/MLA agreement will mark a positive momentum for both countries to strengthen cross-border coordination and cooperation in law enforcement.
